Resources

Yoga Today

Yoga Today offers a different weekly free full-length yoga class! They also post a shorter class each week on their blog. It’s a wonderful resource to add some spice to your home practice, with a variety of yoga styles offered: Anusara, Ashtanga and Kundalini.

Lovingkindness Meditation Practice

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we’ll be exploring the practice of loving-kindness meditation. It’s also known as metta or maitri.

If you’d like a downloadable version to practice with at home, Susan Piver has two wonderful versions. Try the five-minute if you only have a little time, or settle in for the full 20-minute version.

Soothing Heating Pads

This may seem like an odd resource, but winter-time in Iowa can sometimes call for drastic measures. I use my water-filled heating pad that I microwave at least twice a day to warm up.  It’s also a fun accessory for many restorative yoga poses. Try supported child, supported fish, you name it–your pose will be all the more delicious with the Aqua-Cel.

Bedtime Yoga

All of us have trouble getting to sleep from time to time, and for others, it’s an ongoing struggle.

Turn to your yoga toolbox for some ideas to help you get to sleep better. YogaXoga offers this post of gentle, soothing yoga you can practice before, and, yes, even in bed. My personal favorite is legs up the wall or headboard. Check out this article for the complete routine. Sweet dreams!

Moving Into Stillness

Erich Schiffman is an amazing yogi. He has generously posted his classic yoga book, Moving Into Stillness, on his website. Click here to view Erich’s book.

Eoinn Finn

If you’re looking to enliven your home practice, I highly recommend Eoin Finn‘s free Blissology yoga podcasts. I am especially fond of his “Yoga Quickie,” which is a 28-minute complete yoga class. Eoin has this smooth, relaxing surfer-dude voice that makes the sequence a breeze. You can download the podcasts for free through i-tunes.

One Piece of Advice…

One of my favorite yoga resources is Susi Hately Aldous of Functional Synergy. She is an expert in yoga anatomy and has compiled this resource entitled “One Piece of Advice for Getting Out of Pain, Regaining Functional Movement, Finding Quiet, Ease and Peace.”
